KUNPHENLING (tib. Kunphen – benefit for all, ling – land) is Dzogchen Community retreat center, previously known as "Kunsangar" (tib. gar – a kind of settlement around Buddhist monastery).

Retreat center is a place specially designed for spiritual practice - collective or personal one, in strict solitude or just in a calm comfortable environment. All our employees are also practitioners.

Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche firstly visited Russia in 1992; the number of people interested in Dzogchen teaching was so huge that Rinpoche proposed to build in Russia a gar (this was the name for big international centers of Dzogchen Community).

In Autumn 1998 the place for the future gar was found – it was former children camp in a beautiful pine-tree forest not far from Moscow. Rinpoche called this place “Kunsangar” (tib kunzan or kuntu zangpo – Great Perfection).

The first retreat with Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche took place in Kunsangar already in July 1999, and there were about 1500 participants. In May 2001 Rinpoche again arrived to Kunsangar and spent there the whole month, because of series of Santi Maha Sangha examinations and trainings.

In 1999-2005 there were organized a lot of retreats, trainings and courses in Santi Maha Sangha, Yantra Yoga and Vajra Dance with international and local instructors. Through all these years Kunsangar was also coordinating activities of entire Russian-speaking Dzogchen Community. Its everyday life was supported by practitioners – both employees and volunteers.

Besides Kunsangar was collaborating with other Dharma centers, and as a result it was visited and given Teaching by such famous Buddhist Masters as Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche, Nyichang Kongtrul Rinpoche and Patrul Rinpoche.

Since 2006 Kunsangar is no longer the gar of Dzogchen Community (it was decision of Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, mostly because of economical reasons), but it is successfully developing as a big retreat center. In January 2007 Rinpoche gave it a new name – Kunphenling.

In its current status Kunphenling is still playing a noticeable role in the life of Russian Dzogchen Community as a unique retreat center. It is also closely collaborating with biggest Dharma centers and keeping mutually beneficial relations with other eastern spiritual traditions (Chigun, Taoism, Hatha yoga, etc.)

Only during last year there were organised Teaching retreats with Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche, H. E. Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche, Rangrig Dordje Rinpoche, Karti Lachung Rinpoche, H.E. Ninth Khalkha Jetsun Dhampa Bogdo Gegen Rinpoche, Khenpo Choga Rinpoche, Theravada master Ajahn Sumedho, and famous Taoist Master Mantek Chia.

Today Kunphenling is the only Buddhist retreat center in Moscow region and the biggest one in European part of Russia.

About 10 years Kunphenling has been developing as a place for spiritual practices. This is what distinguishes it from ordinary resting places in Moscow region and makes it exceptionally attractive for organizers of spiritual and creative seminars.
